Senior Researcher (Industrial Relations) – Research & Policy Department – Head Office (Ref: 905)

Salary: £50,339 pa rising to £57,187 pa after successful completion of the probationary period

Location: Head Office, Salford Quays, M50 3XZ

The Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers is one of the UK's largest trade unions.

A vacancy exists for a Senior Researcher (Industrial Relations) based at the Union’s Head Office.

The principal duties are: to provide research and briefings to support the Union's collective bargaining; to provide advice and information on industrial relations, organising, and work study/productivity issues; to support and develop elements of the Union’s campaigning work as required, including by building relationships with internal and external stakeholders; to project manage and co-ordinate the work of Researchers on specific research projects and in providing collective bargaining support to regional officials.

The successful applicant will possess: a degree in a relevant area or equivalent recent experience in a research related role in the Trade Union and Labour Movement; an understanding of trade union research and the practical application of information for collective bargaining and industrial relations; a detailed understanding of industrial relations and a broad knowledge of social, economic and equalities issues; knowledge of employment law; an ability to apply managerial judgement and initiative, alongside and in the absence of the Head of Research & Policy; an in-depth knowledge of the trade union and wider labour movement.
