Wear Red Day is the national day of action for the UK’s leading anti-racism educational charity, Show Racism the Red Card. The charity is calling on people to wear something red on the day and raise funds to support its anti-racism education work with young people and adults in the UK.
Paddy Lillis – Usdaw general secretary says: “Wear Red Day is an important date in Usdaw’s annual calendar. It enables thousands of reps and members to take an active stand against racism in all its forms. After the eruption of racist violence over the summer, this year, it’s even more important that we as trade unionists stand together to promote a strong message of anti-racism and solidarity in our workplaces and communities.
“Across the country, Usdaw reps will be supporting Wear Red Day in a range of ways to both raise awareness and funds for the educational work delivered by Show Racism the Red Card. It is the tenth anniversary of this important and growing campaign day, something everyone involved should be very proud of achieving. Last year over 600,000 participated and this year the aim is for a million plus.
“These activities complement Usdaw’s ongoing ‘No Room for Racism’ campaign, which involves the union’s reps running workplace campaigns all year round doing what our reps do best - standing up for workers at the sharp end and bringing people together. They engage members, non-members and employers with our anti-racist message: not in my name, not in my workplace.”
