Discrimination
While discrimination is illegal it can be very difficult to prove. However, Usdaw works tirelessly to support members and reps both to promote equality and end discrimination in all its forms. Legislation does exist to protect individuals from discrimination and Usdaw’s reps, officials and Legal Department can be called upon to support members.
How to get involved
Members can volunteer to get involved in their Regional Equality Forum by contacting their local office. This forms part of the Union’s aim to increase the participation of disabled members in the work of Usdaw.
Usdaw has successfully represented many disabled members unlawfully discriminated against at work.
More and more disabled members are getting involved in Usdaw.
Disability History Month
Disability History Month takes place from mid November to mid December every year.
This year Usdaw is asking members who want to get involved in promoting Disability History Month to raise awareness in their workplace of the rights members with hidden disabilities or impairments have.

Disability pay gap
Disability Pay Gap Day is when the average disabled worker stops getting paid for the rest of the year, compared to the average non-disabled worker, based on the disparity of pay.
