Usdaw now calls on the Government to deliver on their promise to bring forward an amendment in the House of Lords.

Retail trade union Usdaw has welcomed a report from a cross-party committee of MPs that highlights the need for a new criminal offence to protect shopworkers following a shocking upsurge in violence and abuse. The union is hoping that an amendment to the Government’s flagship crime bill will be debated and voted on next Monday 5 July.

Retail trade union Usdaw is disappointed that the Government has yet again rejected an attempt to provide greater protection for frontline workers by opposing an amendment to their flagship crime bill. Usdaw now hopes that the amendment will come back later in the bill’s passage for a vote of all MPs.

The House of Commons Home Affairs Select Committee has today reported on their survey of over 12,000 shopworkers, which shows that a third did not report an incident because they believed nothing would be done or it was ‘just part of the job’.
