Retail industry unites to call on the Government to avoid a “life sentence” of violence and abuse for shopworkers

Retail trade union Usdaw is part of a coalition, which includes more than 30 major retail businesses, that is today urging MPs to avoid shackling over three million shopworkers to a “life sentence” of violence, abuse and anti-social behaviour by encouraging them to back an amendment to a flagship Government crime bill which would offer frontline workers greater protection.

ACS crime survey confirms Usdaw findings on the appalling scale of abuse of shopworkers – the Government must act

Retail trade union Usdaw has again called for legislation to better protect retail staff. Today’s (23 March) figures from the Association of Convenience Stores (ACS) today show that 89% of colleagues working in local shops have experienced some form of abuse, with over 1.2 million incidents recorded over the last year.
