Retail trade union Usdaw has welcomed a move by Tesco to introduce new protective screens at hundreds of Express stores and petrol station kiosks in a further bid to protect its colleagues from assault. The supermarket, which has already rolled out body-worn cameras, is making the move amid a rising tide of retail crime.

Retail trade union Usdaw has again called on the Government to intervene further in tackling the cost of living crisis, which is severely impacting low-paid workers. On Sunday 1 October the cap on the unit price of gas and electricity reduces by £124, but bills remain extremely high.

Kellogg’s new policy for employees impacted by domestic abuse is welcomed by Usdaw

Food manufacturing trade union Usdaw has welcomed breakfast giant Kellogg’s agreement to a new domestic abuse policy, offering support to workers including extra paid leave. The company offer anyone suffering from the impact of domestic abuse an additional 10 days’ paid leave, as well as financial help for an initial legal support meeting.

Supermarkets are a key target for retail crime – Usdaw calls for action to protect shopworkers

Retail trade union Usdaw has renewed their call for action to protect shopworkers after research finds that supermarkets suffered the highest proportion of retail crime at 54.42%. Department stores were second with 6.19% and convenience stores were third with 6.03% of retail theft. Insurance comparison website Money.co.uk extracted crime data for England & Wales to see which retail sectors have been the worst victims of shop theft.

Rising prices continue to devalue wages – Usdaw calls for a new deal for workers to tackle the cost of living crisis

Retail trade union Usdaw is calling for the Government to address the cost of living crisis, after today’s inflations figures show that wages continue to be devalued by prices rising faster than incomes. The Retail Prices Index (RPI) rate rose from 9% to 9.1%, the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) dipped slightly to 6.7%.
