Usdaw members at nine Tesco distribution centres vote overwhelmingly for industrial action in disputes over pay

In two separate ballots, Usdaw members have voted 73% and 84% in favour of industrial action as a result of disputes over pay. The two ballots separately cover nine Tesco Distribution sites. Following the result, Usdaw has today given notice of a stoppage starting on Monday 20 December and concluding on Christmas Eve.

Usdaw will study the detail of a Government amendment on a protection of workers law

Retail trade union Usdaw welcomes the Government accepting the need for retail workers to have specific legal protection from violence at work. After years of opposition to Usdaw’s campaign for a new law to protect shopworkers from violence, threats and abuse; the Government has today announced that they will seek to amend the Police, Crime Sentencing and Courts Bill in the House of Lords.

86% of Arcadia stores remain empty - Usdaw says that clearly shows we need a retail recovery plan

Retail trade union Usdaw has renewed the call for a recovery plan for the industry, after the Local Data Company found that around 86% of Arcadia group shop sites are still vacant. That includes former Topshop, Topman, Burton and Dorothy Perkins stores, which closed after the company collapsed.

The Government was wrong to water down safety in stores says Usdaw, face coverings should have remained mandatory

Retail trade union Usdaw wants the Government to be absolutely clear that it is a legal requirement in England for shoppers to wear face coverings again, after the Omicron variant of Covid-19 is detected in the UK. The union asserts that the Government was wrong to lift safety measures in stores on 19 July.

Retail trade union Usdaw has welcomed today’s Christmas launch of the national #ShopKind campaign, which encourages shoppers to treat staff with respect when they visit high streets. New polling reveals that over one third of shoppers (38%) have witnessed violence and abuse against shopworkers.
