Shopworkers’ trade union Usdaw has welcomed reports that the Government will not be pressing ahead with plans to deregulate Sunday trading hours having listened to the arguments. Usdaw continues to call for an industrial strategy for retail, which was struggling before the Coronavirus emergency and a tripartite recovery plan involving government, retailers and Usdaw.

Retail trade union Usdaw has today given oral evidence to the BEIS Select Committee enquiry into the impact of the Coronavirus emergency, with a call for the Government to agree with employers and trade unions a recovery plan for the high street, which was already struggling before the Coronavirus emergency.

Usdaw’s industrial strategy for the retail sector calls for clear actions including tackling disproportionate business rates, ending excessive town and city centre parking charges and eliminating violence, threats and abuse against shop staff.

Usdaw continues to focus on promoting an industrial strategy for the retail sector that involves local and national government, retailers and all key stakeholders working together.
