‘Fire and rehire’ should be banned not given a code of practice says Usdaw

Retail trade union Usdaw has responded to the Government’s proposed code of practice on ‘fire and rehire’ with deep disappointment. ‘Fire and rehire’ refers to when an employer dismisses an employee and offers to re-engage them on a new contract with less-favourable terms.

Double-digit inflation continues to devalue wages – Usdaw calls for Government action and a new deal for workers

Retail trade union Usdaw continues to call for a new deal for workers to help struggling families with the cost of living crisis, because wages are still being devalued by rising prices. Today the Retail Prices Index (RPI) rate of inflation dipped slightly to 13.4% and the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) rate to 10.5%.

Three-quarters of low-paid workers cannot afford to take sick leave – an Usdaw survey finds

Retail trade union Usdaw continues to call for Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) reform following the union’s survey finding that 76% of respondents cannot afford to take sick leave, rising to 9 in 10 for those on in-work benefits, because of the cost of living crisis and very low SSP at just £99.35 a week. Usdaw surveyed over 7,500 members, who are mainly low-paid key workers in retail.
